"The shepherd drives the wolf from the sheep's for which the sheep thanks the shepherd as his liberator, while the wolf denounces him for the same act as the destroyer of liberty. Plainly, the sheep and the wolf are not agreed upon a definition of liberty."- Abraham Lincoln

"We have no government armed with power capable of contending with human passions unbridled by morality and religion. Avarice, ambition, revenge, or gallantry, would break the strongest cords of our Constitution as a whale goes through a net. Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other."

News for Veterans
Important information for veterans: asbestos-containing products such as insulation or floor & ceiling tiles were often used on military ships and within military housing, and veterans may have been unknowingly exposed. Prior exposure to asbestos is the only determined cause of mesothelioma, a deadly cancer that has no known cure and strikes countless veterans and their families. Rally to Save Vets Counseling
A veteran received the following from the Town of Hempstead Supervisor, Kate Murray.
Dear Veteran,
We are writing to alert you to a troubling development concerning important counseling services at Hempstead Town Hall.
The town has recently received notification that the New York State Division of Veterans' Affairs plans to close the veterans counseling booth at Hempstead Town Hall. Veterans like you have relied on Mr. Nathan King (veterans counselor) for assistance in receiving important services and benefits.
Having the office at this location is much more then just a convenience. Many older vets would find travel to Northport or even the eastern end of our county to be a hardship. The men and woman who have put their lives on the line to defend our freedom deserve to have easy access to consulting services.
The Hempstead Town Hall office is slated for closure on June 29th. We have written to Mr. James McDonough, Director of the state's Division of Veterans Affairs, as well as the Governor asking them to reconsider their plan.
If you are concerned about this scheduled closure, please contact the Governor and Mr. McDonough as follows:
Please join us and other members of the Hempstead Town Board on Thursday, June 25th at 10:45 a.m. at Hempstead Town Hall to demonstrate our strong opposition to the state's plan to close our veterans counseling center. It's an insult to you, all of the other veterans and the surviving spouses of vets who have served this nation with bravery and courage. There will be parking at the Peninsula Boulevard parking lot (Town Hall is located at One Washington Street in Hempstead at the corner of Washington Street and Peninsula Boulevard.
We believe that the united voice of veterans on this matter will demonstrate to the Governor the importance of keeping counseling services at Hempstead Town Hall.
