Airborne Dave’s Challenge
By Bruce L Salisbury
Airborne Dave (aka (Dave Deatherage) is a guy who jumped out of airplanes and is a fast burner. It is no surprise to me that this man who was a part of the original cadre when we started a project to name a mountain for all of America’s killed and missing from our five uniformed services has now moved to the front of the line and stepped up the cadence in efforts to gather funds for MOUNT KIAMIA MEMORIAL.
The most active group of fundraisers is from Mid-America Chapter, 82nd Airborne Division & Ripcord Chapter, 187th Airborne Rakkasans!
Dave and a small group of Airborne Troops have become the people who have raised the most money for this 501 (c) (3) with several thousand dollars raised. They are presently working at another fund raiser hoping to gather at least one thousand dollars more for this not for profit charity. The purpose of the fund is to honor the KIA/MIA from all five uniformed services and from all wars. 100% of the fundzsare used for the Memorial.
Dave’s group includes Leo T. Hobson, John Eberhardt, Carl Stovar and George Grover. They are issuing a CHALLENGE to any military group to try to outdo them in fund gathering for the “Mount KIAMIA Memorial Fund”.
If you’d like to donate to the fund for the mountain and receive a Challenge Coin with The Ripcord Chapter, 187th Airborne Rakkasans emblazoned on it, please contact Dave at ripcord187th@yahoo.com
I flew with the Air Force but thankfully never jumped out of an aircraft, and just for the record, the word RAKKASAN is Japanese and means “umbrellas falling”.
A salute to The Airborne!
Money can be sent to MOUNT KIAMIA MEMORIAL; this is a 501 ( c ) ( 3 ) organization exempt under IRS code and is further recognized as a Public Charity. The Citizens Bank is caring for the fund and is located at 205 S. Main Aztec, New Mexico 87410 Telephone (505) 566-4923, FAX (505) 334-7565 Attn: Vivian Giles.
Money can also be sent to me via check but please write PAY TO THE ORDER OF MOUNT KIAMIA MEMORIAL on your check. We honor all the nations killed and missing in action from all five of America's uniformed armed services and from all of our wars.
