Carl Venne
Our Fallen Soldiers Vietnam Veteran Crow Tribal Chairman
Venne was a Vietnam veteran and had expressed pride in American Indians serving in the military.
When he returned from military service in southeast Asia he took a taxi from Billings Logan International Airport to a highway,
then hitchhiked the rest of the way home. Venne was dedicated to honoring each warrior who came home and to do so in a public and all-inclusive way. Fiercely proud of the number ofAmerican Indians
inmilitary service, Venne frequently reminded people that everyone in uniformis in harm’s way while
trying to protect America. “The terrorist bullets don’t say you’re white, black, red or yellow,” he said during a veterans salute in 2006
