Veterans: VA Choice isn’t functioning well

Veteran Warren Pierce is worried that vets aren’t getting the care they need.
Pierce is partially covered by the VA Choice insurance program, an option for people who are 40 or more miles away from a Veterans Affairs facility or who have to wait 30 days for an appointment can seek non-VA care.

But that system, patients and providers say, is difficult to navigate and hard to get reimbursed through.

“I’ve spent many hours on the phone just trying to get one thing done,” said Pierce, who lives in Victor, Idaho. “I’m reasonably well-educated and I don’t give up, so I was able to deal with the system. But there are an awful lot of vets around that just don’t have that persistence, and so they aren’t getting the care that they need. ” Veterans: VA Choice isn’t functioning well
